The ELDER-SPACES project second consortium meeting took place in Athens, Greece, on December 6-7, 2011. The consortium, hosted by Singular Logic, a leading Software and Integrated IT Solutions Group in Greece, gathered to discuss the latest achievements and the next steps to be performed during the following months.
Highlights
ELDER-SPACES IInd Consortium Meeting
ELDER-SPACES aims at developing and delivering a novel social networking platform, customized according to the needs and preferences of older adults. On top of this networking platform, the project will develop a number of applications for building elderly communities, boosting social activation (including motivating face-to-face activities), intergeneration activities, as well as management and maintenance of social relationships and graphs.
ELDER-SPACES will build upon the success of popular networking tools such as Facebook.com and myspace.com: it will be built over the iWiW (Internet Who is Who) social network, operated by ORIGO ltd, a partner participating to the consortium. Moreover, selected applications will be built as Web2.0 applications over existing social networks such as Facebook. In this way, the ELDER-SPACES platform will capitalize on the capabilities of other social networks, in order to benefit from their wealth of information, knowledge and millions of user profiles.
Overall, ELDER-SPACES will make sure that the platform appeals to people who are not familiar with technology without making users technophobes; on the contrary, ELDER-SPACES is proposed as a means to optimizing quality of life (e.g., more recreation opportunities, improved healthcare and better mobility).
In the ELDER-SPACES world:
Applications are delivered in a human-centric manner.
Face-to-face contacts remain important and ELDER-SPACES acts as a facilitator to such contacts.
Working life is of primary importance, since it is a decisive factor affecting older people’s social life and ELDER-SPACES acts as a facilitator and promoter of the “older worker” concept.
Elderly users participate in the evolution of the platform.
